TOLBERT N. LESTER SUCCUMBS SUNDAY

Athens, Ga., July 15 [1928] (Special)

Tolbert N. Lester, one or the most prominent and influential farmers of Clarke county, and known throughout this section of the State, died at the home of his daughter. Mrs. Arthur Taylor, at College Park, Sunday night.

Mr. Lester was a large landowner in Clarke county and one of the most successful farmers in the entire state. He was 89 years of age at his death, and was a member of a pioneer Georgia family.

He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. W. P. H. Epps, Madison, Mrs. J. L. McElroy, Athens, Mrs. Lionel Tate, College Park, and Mrs. Arthur Taylor, College Park, and two sons, W. P. Lester, New York city, and C. B. Lester, of Athens.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11:30 o'clock from the Mount Zion church, near Athens, Interment will be in the churchyard.

Mr. Tolbert Lester, Beloved Veteran, Is Taken by Death

Mr. Tolbert N. Lester, beloved veteran of the War Between the States, died Sunday night at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur Taylor, in Col1ege Park, in his ninetieth year.

Mr. Lester was the youngest of 16 children, the son of a prominent pioneer family, and lived to be the oldest. He was one of nine brothers, who enlisted in the Confederate army and all, but one of them returned from the battlefields.

The greater part of his life after the war Mr. Lester spent as a planter In Clarke county, and his holdings there, were among the most extensive in that section. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Lionel Pate, both of College Park; Mrs. W. P. H. Epps of Madison. Ga, and Mrs. J. L. McElroy, of Athens, Ga.: two sons; W. P. Lester. of New York city, and C. P. Lester, of Athens. And 122 other direct descendants. Including 10 great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:30 o'clock Tuesday Morning from the Mount Zion church, near Athens, Rev J. M. Adams will officiate, assisted by Rev. J. H. Stewart. Mr. Lester will be laid to rest in the family cemetery that has served the Lester family as a burial ground for 150 years.

Lester at Mount Zion church, Clarke county, Ga., at 11:30 o'clock tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, July 17, 1928. Rev. J. M. Adams officiating, assisted by Rev. J. H. Stewart. Interment Lester family cemetery. The funeral cortege will leave Tuesday morning at 7:30 o'clock from the chapel of Ed Bond & Condon, Co. 125 Ivy St. N. E.
