Death of Another old Citizen

Mr. Thomas Bishop, one of the oldest and most successful merchants of our town, died at his residence on the 8 inst, after a long and painful illness, in the 63d year of his age. The event was not unexpected to him or his friends. A Northern man by birth, he cast his lot with us some thirty or forty years ago. His enterprise and farseeing judgment contributed materially to the prosperity of the town. He was for many years a leading member of the Presbyterian church, and worked faithfully in the cause of his Master. The church has lost one of it's most zealous members and the town a valuable citizen.

During the funeral services on Monday, the stores of the town were closed and business generally suspended, as a token of respect for the deceased.
