J.H. Shivar Dies; Rites Slated Monday
James H. Shivar Sr., 60, of Timberlane Drive, died in a local hospital Saturday, Feb. 13, after a short illness. He was owner of the Kitchen-Kream doughnut Shop. Funeral services will be conducted at Prince Avenue Baptist Church Monday, Feb. 15, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Jack Tatum will officiate. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be H.L. Sligh, Fred Lanham, E.R. Anderson, Richard Grimsley, Henry Mathews, Earnest Stephens, Morton Mathews, and Paul Compton. He is survived by his wife, Mr. Beulah Henson Shiva; three daughters, Mrs. W.C. Berryman, Mrs. J.R. Martin and Miss Anne Shivar, all of Athens; two sons, James H.. Shivar Jr., and William C. Shivar, both of Athens; five sisters, Mrs. Buddy Robinson, Lincolnton, N.C., Mrs. Frances Higbe, Atlanta, Mrs. Bob DuBose, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mrs. Bill Wilson, Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Sarah Young, Columbia, S.C.; one brother, W.F. Shivar, Columbia, S.C.; and ten grandchildren. He was a native of Blacksburg, S.C. and had been a resident of Athens for 20 years. Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
