Ernest Howard, 83, of 36 Parkview Apts., died Thursday in a local hospital following an extended illness. Born in Wilkes County he had lived in Clarke County for 45 years. The funeral was to be today at 3 p.m. at the Clarke Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. P.S. Dorsey officiating. Burial was to be in the Clarke Grove Cemetery. Survivors include eight daughters, Mrs. Mary Johnson, Mrs. Mary A. Howard, both of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Ruby Blackwell, Athens, Mrs. Louise Byrd, Hickory, N.C., Mrs. Sarah Grams, Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. Bessie M. Howard, Mrs. Victoria Howard, and Ms. Lucy Howard, all of Hickory, N.C.; tow sons, Roy Howard Sr., Athens, and Ralph Howard, Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Florine Johnson, Mrs. Emma L. Grimes, Mrs. Estella Howard, all of Atlanta, a brother, Eugene Howard, Detroit, Mich.; 50 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Hurley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
