Notes from Tammy: Mary Elizabeth GARNER HAMMOND was Tammy's gggrandmother (maternal) and, according to family, 1/2 Cherokee, even though listed as white. (We know many Cherokee made that decision back then). She was married to William C. "Buck" HAMMOND in 1877 (he was born 1807!). Her mother was Mary Ann WISE (b. CLARKE CO.- yr?). Her father was William GARNER (b. Jackson Co.- yr ?). They were married in CLARKE Co. 22 December 1836.
